Enough Panther Juice for Preaseaon
Aug 15, 2005
It may have only been a per-season game but from the time we pulled into the lot it was evident that this was going to be a heated
contest.. As Brenda and I pulled into the lot at 3:00pm we felt that sense of accomplishment of being the first group in the lot. A
streak we intend to stretch. Droplets of rain started to pepper the windshield and I looked out onto the desolate blacktop and I think
the water actually boiled as it hit the pavement. If I only had a couple hundred pounds of shrimp we could had Charlotte's largest
shrimp boil. Maybe it didn't boil but the water turned to steam. And that set the stage for a hot Sat. Night in the Queen city
But the tailgating crew, like the Panthers, struggled through the heat. As Wild Bill Coffey and Rob Steele, " the international man of
mystery", can attest the heat was no match for the thirst quenching power of the aluminum bottle of Bud Light. Actually I think it
was the thirst quenching power of the 12 aluminum bottles of bud light. I also got a suggestion to mix in some Gator aide into the
Panther Blue Hurricanes to help folks go the distance. That way you can be a fun monkey and get your electrolytes. Its a good pre
season suggestion.
While the drinks were refreshing the food lined the table like a mid-season feast. Jennifer Moran and her husband Randle had
been on the Injured Reserve last year and took this pre-season action pretty serious. Jenn whipped up this great melted cheese
and bean dip. Oh yea she is looking for a spot on the starting lineup. With that kind of performance you can expect her to bring it
when the bullets are flying for real......and Randle carried the chips. He is just looking for a spot on the punt return team.
Speaking of special teams, I visited Burt and the Greensboro gang. The kids going to school at nearby Johnson and Wales
Culinary Institute of good eats should visit Burt at the grill. He would most assuredly take them to school. Huge steaks, More
meat there than at a rodeo train wreck. And then he roast these onions in butter and bullion. To top it off they gave me steak and I
gave them chicken wings. Some how I think I got the better end of the deal.
We had a host of BigCatTailgating rookies in camp this go round. Matt Dowling and his beautiful lady stepped up for the juice for
the first time. Matt thinks he can start as our weak side linebacker. " It just a matter of bringing the pain every week ".
Kevin Harward the tailgating freak, brought Troy and his lovely lady friend. When I offered her some more Hurricanes she declined
because it made her legs weak. Being the southern gentleman that I am I got her a chair and gave her the BigCup full of the blue
mix. Rob and Chele Steele also brought Doug, his lovely wife and the gang from Perkins Eastman .
The party was a complete success but many of my key franchise players were worried when I was getting low in the bottle of
Panther Juice and there were many cups to be filled... "Check off ", they said, " thin it out,". I kept pouring them tall. Just as the bottle
expired they said ' your done man". I quickly gave a hard count and set a second bottle in motion to continued the victory pour.
"We should have known your an old veteran you don't make rookie mistakes like that."
Nope... not even in the heat of august at a game that didnt count...
Keep Pounding
