Late Breaking News.
The tailgater's starting free safety, Melissa, has requested a change of position.  She stated she was not satisfied with her performance and
wanted more.  She believes her ass kicking ability will carry over into the place kicking role.  Now in true football circles the kicker carries a
status on the field  only slightly higher than the feature drummer in the Marching band performing during the halftime show.  But the BigCat is
a players coach and has granted her request.  Now this makes her an official member of both the offense and the defense.  That means she
is the only crew member to go both ways.  That seems appropriate for Miss M.

Also Jessie Simms is begging for a stating role.  The big man looks to nail the center spot on the O line.  But it will still be a coaches decision
on Sunday,

Tailgate Breakdown

The fourth preseason game of the season brings an end to training camp and cut time.  Even for the tailgater's.  Yep there are lots of
decisions to make.  We got some great rookies this year.  Cole Kiker looks to make the team as the
holder for field goals and extra points.  "Just look at the way that boy grabs the bottle. He is a natural"  Troy is also looking for a spot.  We have
an open slot on the D-line next to Bake. "He looks like he can put some pressure on the cooler
and thats big when we are playing for real", stated Left Defensive tackle Earl the Pearl.

Then there is the number one draft choice this year, Sean the YoungCat Ferrell. As with many rookies he was a hold out for the first
preseason game but after working  out the details with is agent, Ernest T. Bass, he is back in camp.  "It is going to be interesting to see if he
can navigate the
nacho dip and cookies on his way to the main course.  I have seen him eat.  If he is not careful  he will get the rookie 15 by mid season,"
commented BigCat Trainer (Brenda). "He brings a new look to the crew but the late games of the season will tell if he is a chip off the old
block.

We also had some great performance from some folks sure to make the special teams.  Marty, Andie, and Randy all put in some good work
combining for numerous beers and a few Hurricanes.

Then we have those on the bubble.  Missing from the line up were the always reliable safeties, Sparky and Miss Melissa. "Yea I knew we
would have some problems with them trying to do double duty with college and pro tailgating.", stated  Gamecocks coach Steve Superior.  But
it will be important for them to hold on to that Cocky attitude if they want to bring it on Sunday.  Sparky is kinda like the T.O. of tailgating, he
shows up late but you can count on him to perform.

And there was a preseason miscue from the BigCat as well.  It seems the Panther Juice was closer to Playoff strength this go round.  After
further review, the BigCat was called for illegal mixing procedure, which resulted in a lost of feeling
the mouth area for most of the crew.  A simple shifting of a digit from a 1 to a 2 can lead to a blown play on a key third and long.  The BigCat is
having to run extra sprints this week for the transgression...

Sunday a Day to Remember

Football is a great thing. Gathering with your friends and family in a tailgating festival is a great thing.  The predictions about the Panther's
chances at the Superbowl is a great thing.  The devastation along the Gulf Coast is a human
tragedy this country has not seen in a long time, if ever. Next Sunday is 9/11, the anniversary of another American tragedy. Its a day of
remembrance.  I remember hearing a good friend of mine tell me he just read about an airliner crashing
into the world trade center.  And then we went to the TV and watched the unthinkable happen live before our eyes.  A lot of tears, an enormous
amount of fear and uncertainty filled our lives. In the past week images and stories of the catastrophic destruction from the hurricane filled our
homes. Our neighbors in New Orleans and the gulf coast are trying to survive amid an almost impossible situation.  It puts football and
tailgating into the proper perspective.  Our entire country does what it does best, find ways to help out those in need.  The Red Cross relief
effort is a great way to take action.  This week we will change up our charitable cause and focus on the Hurricane relief effort. The Panthers
are collecting funds at the gate.  We will have the Can available for collections
at the tailgate and then deliver the sum to the collection points at the game. Money helps but more than anything...  Just Pray.
