Whats the Charity of the Week thing?

B
renda and I came up with this idea about 7 years ago we first
started tailgating. The mens uptown homeless shelter was just
across the street from the lot.  After the games some of those guys
would come by looking for some eats.  Which we always had plenty.
So we would feed those guys.  Got to know a couple of them by
name.  Just poor souls who for whatever reason lost their way.

It did make us think about out the blessings we have received that
allow us to share a fantastic afternoon with some where between
20-50 friends 10 Sundays in the fall.   So we know we have so
much to be thankful for.  So we thought about ways to turn the
tailgate into something just a bit more.  So every week.  We provide
the main course, the beer, the Panther Juice and a guaranteed
good time.  Folks always ask what they can bring.  So its great
when folks bring food to share, but we know its difficult to pull stuff
together  sometimes so we suggest that if you want to you can
always drop something in the charity box  if you are so inclined.
Then Brenda and I usually kick in some as well and donate to the
charity of the week. There are some special events that Brenda
and I match whatever is in the box.

The Charity's we pick are those near to our heart, those in need, or
are sometimes aligned with on of the panthers promotions.  We
stuff the buss with school supplies in august and at Christmas we
encourage everyone to bring a toy for the Panthers Toys for Tots
collection.  It is fantastic to see a bunch of Panther juiced filled
adults ridding kids bikes down to the stadium for the donation.  We
have a really good group of folks who always help out our charities.
We have also donated to the Sam Mills Keep Pounding
Foundation for Cancer  research, the Downs Syndrome Buddy
walk.( we have several friends who are parents of kids with Downs
Syndrome),  Breast Cancer Awareness, the Golden Retriever
Rescue Club of Mecklenburg county,  Make a Wish foundation, and
the Mens  Shelter of Mecklenburg County to name a few.

But we believe its
tailgating with a purpose.
